How Notifications Work
Email-Based Delivery
All notifications are delivered via email. When an event occurs that requires your attention — a new message, a maintenance update, a payment confirmation — the system sends an email to the address associated with your account.
When Notifications Are Sent
Notifications are sent in real time as events happen. For example, when a message is sent to you, the notification email is dispatched immediately. There is no batching or digest mode — each notification corresponds to a single event.
No In-App Notification Center
The platform does not currently have an in-app notification inbox or bell icon. All alerts come through email. To stay informed, make sure you have access to the email account linked to your profile and check it regularly.
Notification Types
New Message Alerts
When someone sends you a message through the platform’s messaging system, you receive an email with a preview of the message content and a link to view the full conversation in the portal.
Maintenance Request Updates
Both parties receive email notifications when a maintenance request changes status. If a request is submitted, acknowledged, marked in progress, or completed, the relevant users are notified so they can check the updated status.
Payment Confirmations
When a payment is recorded or processed, both the payer and the recipient receive confirmation emails. These include the payment amount, date, and a link to view the transaction in the portal.
Lease-Related Notices
Notifications are sent for key lease events including new lease creation, upcoming lease expiration, and lease renewal activity. These help ensure that important deadlines are not missed.
Support Ticket Updates
When a support ticket you created receives a response, or when its status changes, you receive an email notification. This keeps you informed about the progress of your support request without needing to check the portal manually.
Managing Your Notifications
Email Delivery Expectations
Notification emails are sent from support@marulaos.com (or a similar domain). Most emails arrive within seconds of the triggering event. Occasional delays of a few minutes can occur during high-traffic periods.
Checking Spam and Junk Folders
If you are not receiving notifications, check your email provider’s spam or junk folder. Some providers aggressively filter automated emails. To prevent this, add the sender address to your contacts or mark a notification email as “Not Spam.”
Ensuring Your Email Is Current
Notifications are sent to the email address on your account. If you have changed email addresses, update your profile in Settings to make sure notifications reach you. Until the new address is verified, notifications will continue going to the old address.
Troubleshooting Notifications
Not Receiving Any Emails
First, check your spam folder. If nothing is there, verify that your email address in Settings is correct and has been verified. Try sending yourself a test by triggering a known notification (for example, send a message). If the email still does not arrive, your email provider may be blocking the sender — contact your email provider or try a different email address.
Delayed Notifications
Short delays (under five minutes) are normal during busy periods. If notifications are consistently delayed by hours, the issue is likely on the email provider’s side. Check your provider’s service status page or try a different email address.
Too Many Notifications
If you are receiving more notifications than expected, review your recent activity. Each event triggers its own email, so periods of high activity (such as onboarding several tenants) will produce more emails. There is no way to selectively mute notification types at this time, but this is a planned feature.
